Flashpoint Academy Covers the Chicago Red Carpet Premiere of Inglorious Basterds
On Tuesday August 18, 2009, the Chicago International Film Festival Summer Gala was in full swing, and Flashpoint’s students, alumni, faculty, and staff were front and center for all the action.
The night’s festivities began on the red carpet where Film Chair Peter Hawley and a student film crew interviewed the man of the hour, director Quentin Tarantino. Greeted by cheers and applause, the director posed for photos, answered questions for the media, and graciously signed autographs for his waiting fans.
Following an introduction and a highlight reel of the director’s work, CIFF Founder and Artistic Director Michael Kutza presented Tarantino a Silver Hugo for Career Achievement. Finally, the screening began, and an audience full of eager fans and fellow cinephiles sat back and enjoyed the summer’s most anticipated film, Inglorious Basterds.
The film ended to thunderous applause, and Tarantino took the stage once more to answer questions in a lively and engaging Q&A session. Addressing all topics from the writing process to casting to making tough decisions in editing, Tarantino’s insights into the production of Inglorious Basterds were warmly received by a very captive audience.
